If I go from 1st to 2nd with at 5K-6K rpm, the rpm doesn't drop too much and then you will have to shift to 3rd immediately after. I think 4.77 would be better fot tracks...

There is nothing wrong with skipping gears if you use the proper technique (ie, give the car time for the revs to drop enough to make it easier on the synchros).
You have to get it pretty close too, IM NOT SAYING DO IT, but many truck drivers dont use a clutch after they get going in first!
