The Fleet...
First, let me start by saying that I am a 20 year old full-time student at a premier liberal arts college who just bought a used 2002 S2K. I saved up enough money to put $10,000 down and finance the remainder, of which I pay the monthly note. Am I spoiled? Despite the fact that I work for a lot of what I get, the answer is still yes.
I am going to disagree with those who say that they would not take a Benz at 16. There is no reason not to if it's going to be given to you. Nobody can afford to buy a Benz for themselves when they are 16, so if it's going to be given to you, take it. However, I do not agree that ANY 16 year old deserves a brand new Benz. I blame the parents for this. Some say that none of these cars are that special, that they are average $30-$40K cars. Well those cars are more expensive than the cars that the majority of the population of grown, working individuals drive. If your first car is a $40k car, what are you going to expect when you're out of grad school? A new SL55AMG? The bar is being set too high at too early of an age. This type of treatment only leads to young individuals developing unrealistic expectations. The average starting salary with an MBA is approx. $70-80k. Even if you are single, you aren't going to be able to afford much more than a $40k car, much less if you are starting a family.
I do agree with the idea of the sense of accomplishment, and I do not care what your gpa in high school is or how many sports teams you are on, that doesn't qualify you as deserving a brand new $40k car. At 16, or even 18 or 19, you have no sense of the value of $40k - you have never earned that much in your entire life, and at your age you couldn't even afford to pay the monthly note on that car, much less the insurance too.
One final thing, S2KDriver18 - If you had a 4.5 GPA in high school, you must have attended a terrible school. Learn how to spell... Anestisiologest ... try Anesthesiologist. Also, learn the difference between "our" and "are." If you think you are going to get an MBA in investment banking, you've got another thing coming. You're going to have a hard time graduating from undergrad, unless you're going to some shitty community college. And lose the "hating" term. If you're going to be educated, try to sound like it. And try to enlighten yourself - people aren't "hating" on you because they are jealous of what you have. They see the terrible disadvantage that you and your brothers have been subjected to. And despite the way you see it, you and your brothers are spoiled... no doubt about it. I'm not trying to criticize - Just think about it.

By the way, didn't the kid originally post "all comments welcome?!"
I agree that some people are "hating," some people are "jealous," and some people are... ??
But the kid set himself out to be abused.
As they say in the Bible: "you wouldn't just lay your body out there for people to trample on, why would you lay your most personal feelings and insecurities out?"
Not saying that there were any "pearls" in the first post, or that anyone is a "swine."
But I can't understand why anyone would post personal things for everyone to "comment" on... and then get offended when all the feedback isn't positive?!!
Duh. What did he expect?
And I don't know about you guys... but my car/cars are going to cost more than my kids' cars combined!

Neither can those kids. But their parents obviously buy them very expensive things to compensate for their lack of attention.
One word,........Spoiled. I just hope you and your brothers deserve and actually appreciate what you have. But somehow I doubt it.
