Okay, so now i have a question. Please, anyone who knows how to tune and use the VAFC please chime in.

I was looking over the dyno plots that we have available on the Vortech kit and i noticed that the horsepower and torque cross somewhere in the neighborhood of 5300 RPM. From what i remember, that is the point that you should have the cams switch over (VTEC). So by installing a VAFC in addition to the kit, what type of changes will and can occur? Are the benefits going to only be seen up top? Or, will lowering the crossover point change the power throughout the powerband?

With Centrifugal equipped s/c like Vortech or Comptech, mildly lowering Vtec crossover with VAFC has good benefit of smoothing out the dip that normally occurs right before Vtec engages.
Fuel tuning should also be done along with changing the Vtec point to have it work properly.
I think setting below 5K isn't recommended with such low boost present around midrange.
FMU is adequate in delivering fuel according to the boost level but you can assist little better with VAFC's ability to - or + fuel at specific rpm intervals. I think you will end up getting most gains around mid range but once properly tuned, you may have gains throughout the entire rpms.

It may not have complete tuning tools but it certainly is one of the most bang for a buck mod.

I'm not sure why vortech did not put the plug gapping in their documents.

Dyno results:

We could not adjust fuel due to vortech map computer putting out a static voltage. Vortech did confirm this and has a copy of the Dyno and a/F to help advise. The car needs to be richened up with an upgraded FMU then we will bypass vortech's map computer and put a block on the map sensor to make sure that it doesn't send boost to the ECU. Once we have it running a little rich we will lean it out with the VAFC.

That's the plan anyway.

We did move VTEC to 5200 RPM's which gave us some earlier power.

I have ordered a calibration attachment for my FMU that will give me more fuel. Then we will bypass the vortech map controller. Attach a block to the map sensor so it does not send boost info to the ECU. We will then tune the air Fuel.

Heres the new Dyno and the air/fuel.

Let me know immediatley if you guys can adjust A/F with a VAFC. We were making up to 10% adjustments and still saw not change in A/F. I hope you guys have more luck.

I stated my solution aboove but it will be a while before I can afford to put my car back on the dyno.

I am very pleased with the way the car feals with the lower VTEC engagement.

5300 RPM engagement
5200 RPM disengagement

Their were actually considerable HP and torque gains. I forgot to post the comparison Dyno but hope to have it up soon.

Well I'm finally done! Heres how it went. Keep in mind that I had 2 other friends helping with this install (there is no way you can do it alone) and we also used a buddies shop to work in.

Day 1: Today we got the following done: Removed the front bumper, took out the crank pulley ( this took 4 people and breaker bars that was about 4 feet long to get enough torque to get this bolt out), Droped and taped the oil pan (xbrace and front lower brace had to also come off), Installed the FMU, Switched out the fuel pump. Day 1 we worked on it for 6 hours.

Day 2: Today we mounted the SC and belts ( this takes atleast 2 people), Installed the complete cooling system and bypass valve, installed the piggyback ECU, had to relocate the horn, taped into the fuse box with a relay for the fuel pump, installed the air box (had to modify the fan so that it won't cut into the elbow), Toped off all the fluids and tighten belts, Day 2 we worked on the car for 9 hours.

Day 3: Today we ran all the hoses for the kit, installed the front bumper, did a final check. Day 3 took 2 hours.

Total time for install w/ 3 people was 17 hours. The kit runs fine and is very fast. The car feels smoother now during low speeds, maybe this is due to having more torque. As for top speed whoa it's scary fast, I hit 110 for 60 in about 2 secs. This kit WILL put you in your seat when you floor it. The kit has a very loud whining sound. Right now I am having only one problem, the tension adjusting bolt for the SC keeps losening up, I applied a little lock tight and I hope it holds. I'll have to call Vortech monday to find out why this is.

During the install I had a scratch to my front bumper and two dents put in my front right fender . All in all I give this kit two
