i actually own an e36 at the moment and am looking into buying an s2000. i test drove a few of them at my local honda dealer and was very impressed. the ONLY reason i am getting rid of my bmw is because of some underpanel rust. i love my car. it really all comes down to which ever i find first, an s2000 or another bmw.
great pickup. gotta love hellrot

i have seen them even around $6...but you have to be very carefull...coz people buy them to lash them around.
the problem with these cars and even with e46 is that after 90000mil or sometimes higher...the water pump goes out and most of the the coolent components...coz they are made out of plastic...change them before you blow the engine...
other than that they are pretty reliable cars...but i found in mine that after certin milg...you have to start spending sirs money...i sold mine before it got to that point...but i did change the raditor, water pump, etc, i spent over $1500 parts/labour/maint overall, and i had the car for 2.5 years.
they make great track cars...hope this helps.

I actually own both right now but need to sell one soon. Having the toughest time deciding. The M3 is nice but the S is clearly the drivers car. It just feels more buttoned down to me. Also, the M3 has tons of upkeep required. Aside from the cooling upgrade I feel like every bushing and mount pretty much needs to be replaced, plus all the electrical gremlins. I just replaced the final stage unit (for hvac) and now I need a new brake switch. I drove the M3 for a week straight once and hopped back into the S and it was like night and day. The clutch travel and shifter throws are maybe 2 or 3 times shorter in the S. The M3 definitely has potential with aftermarket support, and would be cheaper to hang on to, but I think I'm going to stick with the S.
