Superior quality and the included ram-air effect makes this intake to the probably best on the market.
"Ram-Air" is actually a missused urban ledgend. The effects of ram-air can only be felt at speeds in excess of 100mph or more. How often do you go 100mph or more? Not very often. Ram-air works better on vehicles that have a straight path to the intake manifold,....which the Mugen CAI does not have. Any curves at all will pretty much eliminate any ram-air effects that this CAI sees. I'm not flaming here, but I seriously doubt that the Mugen CAI works any better than a cheap home made CAI that costs less than $60.

In fact, ram-air is still highly debated as to if it works enough on autos to even measure a difference in horsepower. I say it doesn't.

BUT,....the mugen CAI looks sweet, but not sweet enough to spend over $1000 on. Just my honest and fact filled opinion.

Prior the Mugen Intake i had the comptech cai. Even if you notice the ram air effect only at 100 mph and above, which i am drive really often here in Germany, i notice overall more "butt-gain" as with the comptech.

Even my topspeed gets up from 155 to 160 mph with 18" Wheels.

Yes, it is very expensive, but i think Mugen is probably the most experienced tuner for the S2000.

Out of Mugen's Technical Essay:

Cold Air Box Kit
(An air induction system to induce as much cool air as possible)

At Mugen, air box for S2000 cars has been developed for almost a year and half. Many different types of air boxes have been repeatedly tested and the specification was finally decided as a result. Since the development has been carried out for the people who give the first priority to the power performance, there are some unresolved roughness remained for such an area as intake air noise. (It may cause some irritation to ears). Therefore, for those who prefer to have quiet open air driving, we do not recommend the use of this product.

Performance of standard air box and filter.
High performance filter with a only slight loss of pressure is adopted.

As a result of measuring the filter

Does the mugen intake actually come with the attached rain protection plate mentioned in their article?

No, but i think this was for the older version from the Mugen Intake. It had a longer snorkel, or this rain protection plate is included with the Mugen SS Front Bumper.
