Screw that, I'll say it. IMO people who make clones for profit are crooks. You are stealing someone else's ideas, visions and/or designs. If you want to do that at least have the guts to rename the damn product. If you can't even do that then you get no respect from me. What's the difference in the name you ask? The difference is that you are at times associating your inferior product to the company you stole from. Then I have to explain to people why the price difference and why the shit doesn't fit. It's plain sad, especially if you are a person who use to talk the talk. It's easy to copy, you obviously have the tools, now design something. Let's see you take some risk.
Understand something, I know not everyone can afford the real thing. Everyone wants an alternative, and on and on. Just don't associate yourself with the real deal.

Well on the subject of Knockoffs, I personally choose to support the real product innovators and buy the real deal. Their time, money went into the R&D of an original product and I choose to support that even if it means paying more.
And on the point of being "unique" you still are when buying rare high-quality parts. A knock-off will always look like a knock off when they're side by side. There are still alot of people that care about authenticity and they're bright enough to be able to tell the difference, you'll still get your props for having the real deal
Think of it this way, its alot like the guys that restore classic muscle cars. Some of them care enough about authenticity to painstakingly hunt down and then restore the ORIGINAL parts for their car instead of going out and buying a cheap replica. Their cars will always look better and mean more to them and people in the know
Same thing goes for buying real deal parts as opposed to knock offs in my mind
Its sad that the real innovators are loosing out on money because of knock-off manufacturers, but they'll always be around, kind of a fact of life.

Dan,
If someone expects to pay the same price for an authentic piece as they would for a clone, then they are a moron....plain and simple. When you purchase a knock-off, you know the fit will probably not be as good as the original and the're may be quality issues...but its a risk/benefit decision. As long as the knock-off person doesn't try to pass it off as an original, then I don't have a problem with it. A better question is this: what would happen if the tunning house didn't rape people when pricing their products. Its supply and demand. If the orignal was reasonably priced then the demand for knock offs would be low enough that it wouldn't be profitable for them to produce the items. Does it cost money for R&D? yes, no question about it. Do they exagerate that cost? yes, no question. We see this all the time with surgical equipment. Bard makes a certain type of angioplasty balloon and its GREAT to work with because it almost never breaks under high pressure. Now, their competition, Cordis, makes a balloon that 99% the same (total knock-off) but the quality is inferior. They break under high pressures. Bard wouldn't lower their price, so we use the Cordis.... now, after a year and a half, Bard is comming around with lower prices and we are going to switch. In short, if the company didn't try to ass rape the customer, the demand to knock-off wouldn't be there.
