the ARC intake is designed so that air will resonate inside the box, and when that happens, air compress itself, increase pressure and density, Yes, it is kinda like boost, but a really low one.

I think he's trying to describe a Hemholtz resonator-like effect. There was a discussion about this in my "physics behind intakes" thread. But, that effect applies more with intakes like the AEM V2, J's and Comptech...Its the change in Diameter along the intake and lenght of the intake itself have the effect on the pressure waves i.e. putting them 90 degrees in phase, so there is an "additive" effect".
The science behind real intakes is very interesting, but also very complicated.

ummmm. I think it should be a destructive interference (180 degree outa phase), and yes, the stuff I was talking about it's the hemholz effect.

I'm no physicist - but I'm fairly certain that if the ARC intake is based on the Helmholz resonance theory - it wouldn't really matter if the car was moving or not. That would mean that any increases from the box should show up on a dyno.

Furthermore - you don't get "something for nothing" You can optimize for power in a certain RPM range with that type of tuning - but you can't tune for increases everywhere in the powerband.

As many have pointed out - the heated air that the ARC takes in would more than likely offset any potential gains from this intake.

It does look cool though.

lig, your 100% correct. UL did some testing, and ideally one would have several different length runners for consistant gains through out the powerband. (I agreed with you ). BUT, the ARC doesn't have the change in lenght and diameter needed for a Hemholtz chamber.
Again, no diss on the intake..its JDM bling but its not geared towards performance.

I can't remember which, but it would seem if they're 180 out of phase, the pressure waves will cancel each other out.
