Default NC State Trooper Camaro. . .

Finally got a chance to take a pic of the NC State Trooper Camaro. The troopers just recently received these around June or July. This is right around the corner from where I live, so I really need to be sure not to VTEC in the mornings!

If you really desire seeing their site, click here: NCSHP

Here's the photo. . .I am just thankful this pic does not have my S2000 in front of it!

i read somewhere that lots of police depts stopped using camaros and mustangs for pursuit vehicles b/c the crown vics are very capable in that regard. but man it would be fun to be the guy who gets to drive that thing around. relatively speaking of course.

Those Staties use SS Camaros by the dozen here on Long Island. They lay with standard radio cars on any state parkway and wait. The squad car takes the slower cars and the SS takes all the high speed cars or cars that could get away from a Caprice if they decide to run. I believe our car falls into the latter catagory. Tough to speed on these roads. Just another example of the man try'in to keep us down!

Texas DPS sells them every quarter. Average 80Kmiles. Cost varies with the crowd, but it always seems to be higher than Blue book. They get all excited and don't even realize the price is way too high. They just want to own a DPS camaro.
I bought one of the Rustangs in '86. Two friends also own Camaros. They are basically stock SS except for some suspension, brake and cooling changes. Major nightmare to find parts for the modified sections. I wouldn't recommend buying one. Imagine how you would treat the car knowing it's not yours and you can unload it in a year or two for a new one.

There was an interesting news piece on these recently as the highway patrol has just received them. Apparently the patrol officers that are running these got to go through several real world pursuits on strips of highway that are yet to be open to the public.

I saw these a couple of weeks ago as Charlotte was host to the State Highway Patrol convention, otherwise known as race week. There is nothing like a Nascar event to bring out the highway patrol in Charlotte.

I have driven to Atlanta a number of times and I am constantly amazed at the South Carolina Highway Patrol. They take it a step further and have unmarked SS Camaro's for their cars. In fact, they use different colors so you can't just look for black Camaro's.

Either way they look sharp.

Actually from that pic you can see the dual rectangle exhaust that denotes a Z28, but it's the motorola you have to worry, they'll catch anything.

State troopers in Chicago have some Mustang GT's and Camaros that are unmarked with tinted windows to conceal the lights. Happy motoring.
