IMO, I believe that the HDR technique should be used only in certain situations when the available lighting, backgrounds, and object(s) are in all "fitting." It's hard to describe what exactly I mean by that... just as when a photographer thinks a certain shot is taken at the right time, location, angle, etc etc. But examples of suitable conditions for using HDR: shooting an object against the light - sun/spotlight, and in extremely poor or low ambient lighting.

I find it almost annoying (no offense to anyone) that it's been so overly used in just your day-to-day photos. While the resulting effects certainly are unlike anything you'd get in a regular shot, it doesn't serve the purpose of an HDRI to begin with.

Sorry for the small rant.

Here are some of mine:

I'm just saying to really do it correct 3 images is pretty weak and unless you shoot RAW it isn't the same shooting in 8 bit vs 16 bit.

This one I pushed past the point of reality just to see how it turned out, its old and the only one I have saved on S2ki, I usually don't shoot HDR.

Nice pic man....To me (the untrained eye) an overshopped HDR pic looks nice and almost like a drawing, and usually makes a cool wallpaper but from what I've gathered up is that it's not supposed to be used that way. O well, it looks good though

btw, I was just teasing u man

Yeah I pushed it to look like a drawing, I figure if you are going to push it beyond reality you might as well make it look intentional. Most of the HDR stuff I do like doesn't have the drawing look to it. There are a lot of good HDR pools on Flickr.

The real purpose behind HDR is pretty much not making things look like a drawing but more or less a little surreal and getting highlights and contrast otherwise impossible. All the fake drawing stuff comes from the tone mapping.
