Default Pic Request: Gutted Trunks

Please post pics of your gutted trunks. I know that several of you have done this. After searching for a while I haven't been able to find a pic looking straight down into the trunk. Interested in seeing if the sound/heat insulation has been removed below where the tool set would be (black tar looking stuff). Is it safe to remove this insulation. Meaning is it more for sound or for heat. Thanks!

How much weight do you actually save by taking all the carpet and stuff out? I just took out the tools with the styrophome thing that held them.

gutting the entire trunk, my guess on weight would be 75lbs, give or take a few. (spare tire included of coarse). just an estimate from when i had mine all out doing my stereo install.

I'll be doing this next spring. I'm saving it for when I do a bunch of other small things so hopefully doing them all at once will add up to a noticable difference

Thanks for the pic dbzerk, I see you still have the insulation attached.

Anyone have any insight as to if the black tar insulation on the metal beneath the carpet can be removed without any problems. Is it painted/primered underneath the tar insulation? I ask because I removed my carpet and found some of this insulation bubbling up so I pushed down and some broke/crumbled off. I'd like to remove it all together. If it is an issue not having it I will find something to replace the insulation with before I remove all of it.

I am not positive, but its probably painted underneath. When you take the stuff up... who knows if the paint will stick to the tar or to the body.

Paint is over the tar insulation. This is not easy to remove.
