thanks for the comments guys.

" Awesome photography, and most importantly in this case Photoshop! skills."

I actually dont think he did much photoshoping. There was a few road signs that he might have removed, but I believe most, if not all of the picture is real - as hatchmobile explained, i believe he took lots of pictures at different exposures - thats what makes it look fake. (im no photographer, so don't quote me on this)

"I dont suppose you have higher resolution photos for wallpapers?"

um not sure. I'll have to find out. Is the resolution not up to your standards?

we took a lot of pictures, so if you're interested i can post more.

they are hdr (high dynamic range) photos. it's a series of photos taken with different exposures and merged together w/ a program (i.e. photoshop or photomatrix).
I tried that on my camera, am i doing it wrong, i am adjusting shutter speed from almost instant to slower and slower, but all it does is make it brighter white...

^^^you want to get shutter speed constant and change only the exposure.

the way these photos go the surreal/comic look was w/ tone mapping, this allows for more control over the image and the ability to adjust to the desired look.
