Is it OK to revive an old thread? Just wanted to know how the plasti-dip coating is holding up? How long did it last? I want to do it on my car, but I am in Hawaii and the sun is brutal in the summer. Also I have no garage, so the car lives under a cover. Will the cover moving around in the wind destroy the coating? If I went through the trouble to do this, I would want it to last at least a couple years... Also I watch the videos from DYC on YT, and he recommends application of a "dip coat" to protect and harden the finish, anyone use that? Anyone know what it is?

Let's just say that my friend stuffed his S2000 backwards into a wall at a trackday and the paint under the plastidip looked new after peeling. Car is done, but the paint is good.

Sorry to hear
I was wanting to know how long the plastidip coating will hold up to the sun and rubbing from a car cover.... anyone?
I'm in Arizona, and I've had my car done for 2 years. Granted, I barely drive it, but I have moved, and so that means taking the car cover off and putting it back on a few times. It's a little dusty right now as I've had the cover off it for a little while, but other than that, the dip still looks the same as when I first did it.

Plasti Dip gets marred up really easily. I would not leave a cover on the car. Using Dip Coat definitely helps a lot, but still does not eliminate marring. Theres a guy named London in Hawaii that is amazing with dipping. Look up Dip Hawaii and he may be able to help you out. I know he has an instagram.
My S2000 has been 3 different colors since I bought it back in May of 2016. It was camo green when I bought it. Previous owner used 2 gallons of this disgusting color, and did a terrible job of spraying it. you can see how bad the texture is. Many spots were like sand paper. It did not peel at all. I had to use Dip Dissolver and a pressure washer in order to get this mess off the car:
Had a bunch of black gallons so sprayed it satin black. The last coat was 60/40 Dip Pearl Top Coat/Black in order to give it that satin sheen. Wheels are vintage gold topped with gold metalizer. Brake calipers are red plasti dip.
Got tired of the black pretty quick so I used it as the base for the Burnt Copper Alloy. I love this color, and it looks amazing in the sun. There is one coat of pineapple juice mixed into dip pearl top coat over top of the burnt copper, then one coat of plain dip pearl top coat for a little bit of shine.
That's about as smooth of a finish as you'll get using plasti dip and dip pearl top coat.
Wheels are a custom metallic black now.
I'm replacing the front bumper and peeling all of the dip soon. Next is going to be Autoflex instead of plasti dip. Not quite sure on the color yet, but thinking of doing cement gray so it matches my TRD Pro Tacoma.
^^^ Awesome ! Thanks for sharing. Never heard of Autoflex, please let us know how that stuff performs. I love to see all you guys try out stuff so I can decide what would work best for me. Pretty cool to see that you can change the color so often, what a wonderful time to be alive lol!
