RC F-15
R/C planes are cool. A local hobby shop has a 747 they flew and crashed and built another, freakin guys are crazy. I would get into them but I think my S would feel left out and jelouse. Good stuff, maybe one day in the future. How hard is it to build one of these and how much would it cost to build one of those F15's? What kind of motors do they use no props huh?
Kind regards,
JOE

it is quite hard to build one up from wood, you can buy pre made ones or you can buy fibreglass ones, which are ARTF (almost ready to fly).

they use miniture jet engines like this

I didnt know they use real turbine engines, that is out of this world sick! $4-6k thats alot of cash for an r/c plane but by the looks of it its well worth it. Maybe when I'm finished with my S I will look into one of these. As far as flying one would you suggest buying a few other cheap planes and learnig/crashing them? Thanks for all the help these planes are cool as hell.Kind regards,
Joe

You're kidding, right Joe?
Turbine powered RC aircraft, whatever their form, are absolutely NOT for beginners. From what I've seen in my 23 years of flying RC airplanes and helicopters, the average RC pilot is not up to the power and speed that these engines afford. I'm not saying the average guy isn't competent in what they do. It's just that a model plane with one of these engines on it is way, WAY faster than anything with a propellor. The amount of damage one could do if it hit a car or house is frightening to say the least. If it hit a person, they'd be dead.
Most people that aren't into radio control modeling would consider these to be rediculasly expensive toys. From a certain point of view, they may be right but the fact is, these things are very far from being toys. They are very intricate and precise pieces of equipment that demand a fair amount of knowledge and expertise to operate safely.
FWIW!

PS: 4-6k is just an average cost. There are folks in the world that have spent 30-40k on some of these models. It's not for the faint of heart!

these planes are NOT for beginners!!!there are some prop planes that will go around 200 MPH yes that is correct 200MPH, and the people who are flying them find it very hard as they have very little reaction time.
with a jet you also have jet lag(time it takes for the engine to spool up and down) you have to fly it in a BIG space with other people to watch for any hazards.
if you want to fly a fast plane that is not too expensive try this...

MagnumR
