Default S2000 HDR

Hey guys, Just took this shot tonight, and this is the first time I'm messing with HDR. I thought it looked awesome when I saw it. Does it look good?

arent you suppose to over expose the picture at first so its a lot easier to work with?

I used photomatrix. 3 shots, -3.0EV, OEV, and +3.0EV. I didn't mess with the tone mapping either, I liked it the way it was. I guess I could have played with it to make it less dramatic but I kinda like it that way.

also have another quesiton. When i take pictures with my dslr, you can choose to take it in JPEG or RAW. My friends who are experienced with dslr suggested that raw image is better for later editting. I can't seem to open raw files with photomatix... do I need any conversion software or something?
