it's a cool clip, but the fact that the bike can't even pull to the S's tail even on straight roads proves that the either the biker isn't trying or he's a n00b.

That Top Gear episode was just like all the rest...it was retarded!

The rider was not even leaning all the way over for Christ's sake! The same with the Aerial Atom vid...the bike was a 600 and the surface was uneven and the rider was not even trying to lean all the way.

I will say that a well setup "street car" and a well setup "Sportbike" are going to be very close on many roads and it will come down to rider/driver skill.

I have been wanting to do a back-to-back comparison for some time now. How would you all feel if I put my bone stock '04 R1 with Michelin Pilot Powers up against my '01 S with Vortech SC, Eibachs, and stock SO-2's and run them on my local track? I will use a GPS to get everage speed. I am curious of the outcome as well and it will be completely unbiased.

This is gonna be FUN!

It's 8.8 miles from the Dragon Overlook to Deal's Gap. I have seen an 11 minute video of that run, in traffic , taken on a sportbike. That averages out to 48 miles an hour.

From extensive personal experience, I highly doubt an S2000 can beat that time.

rider is

a)newbie since not leaning more with the bike and not hanging off. also has heels on pegs.

or

b)experienced rider that's smarter not to go all out and taking it easy since he knows one mistake will kill him.

just because it's a twisty doesn't mean all riders go all out like they would on a track.

stock for stock, most bikes will run away from cars on the street and canyons. on a race track, cars will usually out run bikes. (if they had "pro" drivers/riders)

race cars/modified cars/tuned cars will smoke most any bike out there unless its severly modded. race cars will smoke race bikes period.

proof:
Moto-Gp. 2005 us gp qual times at laguna seca:

1. Nicky Hayden USA Repsol Honda 1min 22.67 secs
2. Valentino Rossi ITA Yamaha Factory Racing 1min 23.024 secs
3. Alex Barros BRA Honda Pons 1min 23.312 secs
4. Troy Bayliss AUS Honda Pons 1min 23.358 secs

Now cars. 2005 American Le Mans Series at Laguna Seca: ( i purposly didnt compare F1 or Open wheel against the FASTEST bikes period, to show the handicap that bikes have. F1 cars would blow Moto-GP bikes away)

1. Shimoda/Chilton Zytek Zytek 04S 1min 14.185secs
2. Weaver/Leitzinger Dyson Lola EX257-AER 1min 14.906secs
3. Dyson/Wallace Dyson Lola EX257-AER 1min 14.991secs
4. Biela/Pirro Champion Audi R8 1min 15.392secs
5. Maassen/Luhr Penske Porsche RS Spyder 1min 15.606secs*
6. Lehto/Werner Champion Audi R8 1min 15.739secs
7. McMurry/Bucknum/Gue Miracle Courage C65-AER 1min 20.059secs *
8. Borcheller/Mowlem ACEMCO Saleen S7R 1min 20.307secs **
9. Cosmo/Bach B-K Courage C65-Mazda 1min 20.690secs *
10. Fellows/O'Connell Corvette Corvette C6-R 1min 20.719secs **
11. Gavin/Beretta Corvette Corvette C6-R 1min 21.123secs **

notice a corvette race car is faster then a moto-gp bike. of course on a track with more straights, the bike would gain an advantage, not much though.

'nuff said

having raced sport bikes on the track I can pretty much tell you the rider does not know what he is doing. his lines are completely off, he is at maybe 30 % of the limit of the bike at best and he is not accelerating on the straights. The bike has better acceleartion and braking by far so it will be able to get through a straight and stop much quicker than the S. The argument around the bike does not corner as well as a car is only true at the absolute limit of both machines in the hands of proffessional racers on the highest level of race machines (for example a formula one car Vs. a 500cc GP bike and aerodynamics plays a huge part not just contact patch, the bike has none and the F-1 has probably a thousand pound on it at full speed). In general the bikes will corner better. The guy riding is a cruiser at best not a sprot rider of any skills.

[QUOTE=Highrpmek,May 3 2006, 03:25 PM] As unoffical logic, figure the weight-contact patch ratio of each vehicle.
