Coming back home from spending the holidays with my family a deer ran into the side of my S while I was going 55. Its head hit the windshield at the same time its body hit the side of the car. So it got whacked in the head at 55 and the car got hit at "Doe Running Speed." Obviously from the photos it came from the left into the drivers side. As you know the headlights don't shine off to the left as well as they do the right so I didn't see it till it was in the middle of the left lane so I swerved and I only got out of the way enough so it didn't the the front of the car. After that I just seen a deer head on the windshield accompanied by a loud BAM! and crumpling sheet metal. I just stopped on the shoulder and turned on the emergency flashers. I started to open the door only to realize it would only open 4-5 inches (not good). So I put the top down and stepped over the door. I could see the fender and mirror was toast. Looked back and could barely see the deer laying in the road. I was positive it was dead. I called the police and waited. While waiting another car came of the hill and I could see the outline of the deer plainly. Its head was up. So I thought maybe it was just knocked out and its legs must have been broken. Right before the police showed up I could see in another cars headlights the deer stand up and gracefully run away. I felt robbed. I was like "he's getting away!" This morning in daylight I inspected the car best I could only to find more than the fender and mirror was damaged. So now I got all the usual that follows this. Joy.

Anyone have any guesses at cost of repair. Anyone happen to know the cost of mirror, fender, and rear bumper? Will the bumper with have to be replaced since its bent/creased? Not sure what they can do for the door either.

 

my bumper was creased a little bit (barely could tell) and i had it replaced. but as for an estimate im guessing 1500 at least

 

same thing happened to me on thanksgiving day about 5 years ago...a dear ran into the side of my car while i tried to swerve out of the way - antlers went through the windshield and then it spun around and slammed into the rear.....although, instead of an S it was a ford escort (ugh..i know).

i was able to fetch 1300, which included paint/ blending etc etc - everything that had a scratch or dent on it was replaced or repainted - i guess it depends on your insurance....but i agree with silentdancer - looks like 1500+

 

I agree for about $1500.00 also you can find some of the parts used for prety cheap!!!

haha...I konw your pain....I'm not a huge animal buff...I could care less if the thing lives or dies, but in the case of your car taking one for the team and Bambi doesnt even stick around to exchange insurance information, I think you should have reversed it for good measure.

 

What's with all the deer lately? Is it because it's getting close to Christmas?

 

almost happened to me too. i split in between 2 deer going about 60... scarrrrrrrrrry!!!

will insurance cover this?

i have no problem with the death of animals for our consumtion, but its always sad to see any animal be the victim of roadkill. i almost feel worse that it wasnt dead, who knows how messed up it may be, could have serious head trauma and might not be able to survive in the wild anymore.... hopefully at least that will make it an easy hunt to fill some bellies.... otherwise its a waste of an s2k and a deer.....

shitty man. i just replaced my windshield because of some stupid ****ing teenagers.... hate this kinda stuff.

 

lol. reminds me of my friends mazda speed miata. he was going 50 ish on a closed high class community and hit a deer WITH antlers. his entire front, driver side panels and door panels all gone. by the time i saw his car i could hear his fenders scraping on the ground a block away.

you had it pretty easy. time for new cf mirrors, wide front fenders and more =]. 1500 sounds alright.

but shiet. be careful out there. glad you're ok. have a good holiday
