Default SLO2k Build by GO-AUTOWORKS

Hello all!
Some of you may know me, most probably dont.
This is an intro/story of our newest build here.

I purchased this 01 S2000 7/15/10. It was a spur of the moment, "buy it before it sells at the junk auction" purchase. I bought it as a repo vehicle. The downside, the car needless to say was extremely rough as a whole with "fixable" mechanical problems. The good side, it was a 01, w/ fairly low miles, stock suspension, stock motor, and beneath the filth was a fairly decent interior. I had just sold off one of my Civics 7/5/10, and didnt plan on getting into another project, but couldnt pass up this opportunity to build something different. The car will see a lot of new product testing, track days (Talladega) and just fun driving. It will NOT be a drag car. The car will retain A/C and all of its comforts.

Anyway, on to the pics (some are from cameras, some just on the spot phone shots).
The car had to be on a timeline, so parts started coming in fast. I had to have the car at a point to be dropped off by 8/20/10, as it needed to be gone before I left to get married. So over the next month...

The day it arrived...
-Torn up roof, damaged rear bumper, damaged front bumper, dented in rear quarter (that was previously poorly repaired), the car had been resprayed back in 02' according to the carfox, busted tail light, Nissan wheels...I could go on and on, but those were the obvious majors.

Removed the sticker immediately "Drift Happens"...sure
Luckily, the prev owner managed to hit the same spot that was already hit once in 02'(I am the 3rd owner)

Front shots...
Damaged bumper, bad repair job, bad shade of yellow, hazed headlights...the total package.

It took several nights of researching to find out exactly what I wanted. I knew a hardtop was a must...the fact that this one was trashed was a plus. I knew I wanted the OE fitment on parts and love the stock lines of the AP2, so...

A razorblade and about 20 minutes and the top skin was off.

The roof mechanics itself worked flawlesly, so it will be saved (removed at some point, but not garbaged)

After some thinking, I came up with what in my mind was an excellent solution at a good price.

VIS Top
OEM AP2 front
OEM AP2 Rear
Didnt want the OEM front lip, but wanted something that would fit perfectly, so I went with this one...

Fit like a glove

I searched around for a used tail light, found one...but the picture the seller had did not show that the side reflector was faded...and that fade is due to moisture. So it has to be rplaced again

Test fitting:

Found that I had to cut the rear bar for the bumper swap, no biggie...

Rear, fit well...other than the damaged quarter.

Roof in place...

I was happy w/ the overall fit of all the parts, so I pulled it back apart and moved forward to handling the interior cleaning.

The major issue w/ the interior was the torn up roof had its share of duck tape on it. They decided to try to tape parts of it to the roll bar cover, which left that baked on residue...the rest of it was just dirty with a little mildew.

the remover of the residue...

the cleaners (left out the purple power, but it was used)

Now the car was at the point where I felt OK sitting in and driving it.

We got some basic maintenace out the way. New timing tensioner & IAC valve were installed at the dealership. The car would also get a oil PSI warning on a decel. I checked this and found that there was probably .75- 1 quart of oil in the motor ( FTMFL ). The car also got a random misfire and airpump code.

I did the leakdown on the motor, all was good. Compression check, it was fair, I cant remember the numbers, but #4 was 195 where 1-3 were 210-215.

Pulled these over priced plugs (I can't beleive these plugs cost what they do)
and swapped them...

Swapped in a set of K20 coil packs
K next to F

The light is still being pesky (sometimes its off, then it would come on, I'll get to that later)

All together, before leaving one last time...

OK, time to take it all apart.

I also found when removing the headlights, the prev owner took the liberty of keeping the stock HID bulbs and ballasts...so I had to get more.

Hi and Low Beam HIDs

Polished headlight

I took the wheels back off, adjusted the suspension up and got the car to my body guy to let him do his thing...

I got the car back 10/14/10. No bumpers or roof, but we needed to get to work on it while he finished up the other parts.

I know I left out some details in that summary. ut the rest will be more detailed and organized (so much has happened in the past few months, it was hard to compile it all in exact order)

Until next time...
(our usual photgrapher swung by )
