Smacking some Porsche's around at the VIR
I got through my first track day this past weekend (in one piece, thank god!). It was with the Porsche club of america at Virginia international raceway. I was obviously in the "green" group, and was able to pass every car in my group at least once throughout the weekend.
Let's just say there were a a few bruised egos
The car's setup was:
-Stock engine and drivetrain
-Bridgestone RE-11 tires on OEM wheels
-Hawk HP+ brake pads
-NAPA rotors
-Wilwood 570 high temp brake fluid
-Custom made brake ducts.
-Hard dog double diagnal roll bar
-Sparco Evo seats
-Willans 6 point harness'

I'll have plenty more later of some of the other cars at the event. these are just me.

This is one of the guys we went with in his 993 Replica RSR. This car ran the 24 hours of daytona in 2000.

This is my Instructor. He's a professional driver and currently was driving this Kit car with a Hyabusa engine in it. Him and a non profit group that helps underprivileged kids built the car. pretty neat.

Glad to see and hear you had fun at your first track day! Your S looks great from the pics. What size RE-11s are you using?
It's obvious that your instructor was a wealth of beneficial info. Don't get too cocky, though. Passing other cars at an HPDE isn't really what counts. It's what you learn from the event. I'm sure the owner/drivers of the high end cars weren't so quick take chances and get in an accident.
It's all relative.

I learned so much over the three days I was on the track, i'm still trying to process it all. I can't wait to get back now. It also helped that my instructor was top notch, I don't think i could have asked for a better one.
I do have to say though, I don't know that the Porsche guys had more "incentive" to go slow. Most of them trailered their cars in. I drove my s2000 700 miles from MA to VA to be there, and it was my only ride home. If anyone had incentive to drive slow..it was me :-P
