Default For those of you that post pictures....

After browsing at the exhaust thread I noticed a lot of the pictures from behind do not block out the license plates. Guys, you need to make every effort to block out those numbers, they hide a lot of private information about yourself that some people have access to. To make a point of this, from a simple license plate, I can tell you your address, driver's license number, date of birth, when your car was insured, more than likely if it is insured or not, etc. I could even look into it more and find out if there are more cars registered to you and what kinds, if you have ever had any accidents, and...oh yeah, your social security number.

Well, to those not informed and not worrying about that, what happens when you post that pic down the road of that nice shiny exhaust on your car? Then I read in another forum about how your car is covered in snow some mornings(this means to a thief you may be parking it outside all night), then I know your address, and maybe I do a search on your posts and learn a little about you(like your job and it's hours). This could add up to you waking up in the morning and saying "Where the F*&$ is my car?!"

Guys, I'm not saying that everyone has that access because they don't. All it takes is one crooked one to get things going though. We already deal with one of the highest theft rates in the business. I just want everyone to take simple precautions to protect themselves and their precious rides. One thief doing their homework on this site could end up with a nice ride at one of our expenses, and it is not that difficult.

Just wanted to voice my opinion on this.

also keep in mind that if anyone wants to look up that information, it may not be someone from a desk 500 miles away. .it may be from a desk next door to your house.

While I agree, I also think, to some extent, it's a little bit overkill. True, some people would be able to use your license plate information that they saw in a picture on the net to find out valuable personal information about you. But if that's the case, what's to stop all of the 100s if not 1000s of people who see your license plate numbers on daily basis while you drive around on the streets from doing the same thing?

Blah blah blah. Worthless to do, but if it makes you sleep better at night in your own little world, so be it.

I could care less if my car gets stolen. That is what insurance is for. 99.9% of the cars that get stolen are not because it was seen on the internet and he tracked you down because of your license plate.
