quick little update: received these two pieces yesterday.

ASM Exgel Seat Belt Pads and a DRY CARBON J's Racing 3D Type-1 GT Spoiler. As some of you may know, I ordered my J's wing almost a year ago, but this is not the same piece. When I receive the one I ordered, I will basically have two J's wings; one in dry carbon and one in wet carbon. When I receive it, I will decide which one to keep and will probably post the other one for sale. Oh yeah, and how do you clean up dry carbon??? I searched in the wash and wax section to no avail... anyone have any tips? I talked to a few people and they said to just wash it as you would any other piece of bodywork. I was also told to bring in the wing to have it clearcoated. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

onto the pics!

Mmm.. dry carbon..

more updates next week hopefully if my shipment arrives.

cool, that should make things pretty easy. I thought there might be some special way to clean it up. Would it risk damaging the weave if I use an orbital buffer on it? I guess I can just wax and buff it by hand if anything. Thanks for the info!

Wouldn't it be "wet carbon" if you clearcoat "dry carbon"..? Sorry for my ignorance but I thought that was the difference.

that's what I thought too, but some of the folks I talked to tell me that the dry carbon has "pinholes" and to get it clearcoated to fill in the pinholes.. this will also keep the cf from turning yellow after being in the sun for too long. I guess I'll talk to my body shop guy and see if he has worked with dry carbon before.

So..you purchased your dry carbon fiber wing without knowing what "dry carbon fiber" really is?

Dry Carbon is plastic layered with epoxy that has carbon fiber in it, which is pressurized via vacuum, then heated up for strengthening and hardening. This process that forms dry carbon makes the material incredibly strong and lightweight. I stated also that I used to think that one of the differences with wet and dry carbon was that wet carbon had a thicker layer of clearcoat on it as well.. apparently by assuming so, I don't know what dry carbon really is. lighter and stronger is all I needed to understand.

The reason why I stated that some people have informed me that dry carbon has pinholes is because when I tried to wipe the wing down, I wasn't sure how to go about cleaning the dry carbon finish. People told me to go have it clearcoated if I wanted to get rid of the pinholes that would "stick" to the towel and to protect the carbon from turning yellow.
