This is the American Kennel Club website for the American Staffordshire Terrier. I believe the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is the commonly known "pitbull." The AKC does not consider pitbull to be a breed name.

If I am not mistaken, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was bred to bring out certain traits, which created the pitbull. Some people call them the American Pit Bull Terrier, which is also not a recognized AKC breed. However, this breed is recognized by the UKC (United Kennel Club).

I was curious, so I did some research
