Default Ants in my car!

So I picked up my 2nd BB s2k a few weeks ago and noticed a few ants crawling on the outside of the car. I really didn't think twice as the guy I bought it from said he parked it under some trees for a few weeks prior to me buying so his new vette could sit in the car port rather than the s. Ok, so maybe a few ants fell on the car, no big deal right?

Over the first few days I had the car I'd fine 8-10 little black ants crawling around and kill them.

I then got a little concerned and decided to leave the car in the 100,000 degree heat we've been having in TX for a few days figuring that would kill them.

Apparently they did not like this and decided to move in under my drivers seat..... they don't bite, they just crawl around and are annoying.

I already vacuumed the hell out of the inside, washed/detailed the outside, yet they are still in the car somewhere.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of them????

oh, boy. if there are that many of them then there must be a food source in the car somewhere. all it take is a jolly rancher stuck under the seat to feed hundreds of them. i'd try to follow the ant trail to the food source and start there.

Yeah try to look for the source. I would remove the seats or try to get a look under and see if there's a piece of candy somewhere. Look inside the cab first, under the shifter (remove shift boot) or center console, behind the radio, etc. Then check under the trunk, spare tire and tool compartments, etc. finally check the engine bay. If it doesn't go away, DO NOT bug bomb your own car. I did that once cause I had a flea issue like 10 years ago. Someone brought fleas to our college house and I wanted to get rid of it in my car so I sprayed everywhere and basically was breathing in poison everytime I got into the car even with the windows down.

There's a genius way to not only kill ants but to bait them. The trick to killing bugs isn't to try to seek and destroy, that shit dont work cause they keep coming back. We've had a lot of ant problems in our house. They come from our backyard. But ever since I did this special treatment about 3 or 4 times over the course of 2 years, they are gone. Havent had ants in the house in a very long time.

GO to youtube and find the recipe for borax/honey or borax/brown sugar ant bait. You can get borax anywhere but I believe I got mine at walmart. It's either borax or boric acid. There's a certain ratio you mix with borax and the sweet honey/brown sugar and water. You want it to sweet enough to where they are attracted and gathering like crazy but not so sweet that it doesn't kill them.
If i'm not mistaken it was something like 1 teaspoon for borax for 2 tablespoons of sugar and 2 tablespoons of water. Put it in an open container. I used a plastic $99 water bottle cut down real low like a saucer. leave it somewhere near the car but not inside. Maybe unplug the battery, leave the door open if you have a garage and put the bait right under the driver's door and also one for the passenger door. Spill some on the floor.

Within HOURS there will be ants swarming around it drinking like crazy. And they'll take it back to their colony, feed it to everyone else and theyll die by exploding. Or burst stomach, whatever borax does to ants. You'll see the number of ants diminish within a day and completely gone within 3 days.

You know those ant trails with tons and tons of ants? We used to have those outside our door going into the ground into some colony and trailing under our front door, all around our home. One treatment of that and they're no longer to be seen.

Put some of this in a spot that you see ants and won't hurt the car. They will be dead in hours. We get them in our work trucks every now and then and this kills the shit out of them.

Thanks for all the replies and advice!

I've got free time this weekend and will be pulling out seats, vacuuming again, and setting up some kind of poison for a few days (no seats in car).

I'll come back with an update shortly after!!

I'm sure a bug bomb would work well....but stink up your car.

If you use it, leave your windows open.
