Default AP1 Centre console plastic

I'm going to give my AP1 centre console a little tidy up; new shift boot & elbow pad and refurb/repaint the shift surround etc. However one thing I would like to tackle is the textured plastic that the whole console is made out of (i.e the cup holder lid). I'm not a massive fan of it and would like to do something with it.

I have 2 options as I see it - repaint it or use a vinyl wrap. However with both of these solutions, the texture would still show through - so has anybody ever managed to sand it or anything like that? Or can you get a thicker type of vinyl that won't show the texture through?

If you want you could scuff it and give it a coat of plastic primer it then 2/3 coats of 2k primer let it dry. then wet sand with 800, till smooth. you'll have no more texture. then paint but after 800 wet sand and plastic shows then you need more 2k primer. hope this helps.

Thanks it does. I'm going to try and pick up something to practice on...
