You can also try a product called Natures Miracle (at pet stores, online etc). It is an enzyme-based cleaner made specifically to clean and destroy pet odors. Many folks have told me that it works wonders.

I looked into this because we just backed out of buying a house because of the overpowering wet dog smell. Most recommended Natures Miracle. It's amazing how pet owners become desensitized to dog smell (and how sensitive non-pet folks are too the smell).
