right now my 07 NFR has all black interior. i want to swap out just this panel with the red insert:
do we have to swap out the whole door panel or can that red piece be swapped out?

 

the red piece can be swapped out. remove the door panel, then there are about 11 screws on the backside that separate the red part. shouldnt take longer then 15 min for the whole thing.

i do not know. you can take the center and get it upholstered at an interior shop tho

 

thats an option. i found a guy whos parting out an ap1 that has that door panel. i wonder if its compatible with the ap2 door panel.

 

they do fit is the same thing just that ap2 panel has tweeters and the net bag other than that they are the same

I sent my oem black panel inserts to JPM Coachworks and they re-upholstered them in high quality leather to the colour of my choice. I'd recommend that if you want a better quality insert and you can pick any colour leather and stitching combo that you want. You can even select the ap1 vs ap2 pattern if you like as they are different ( I went with the ap1 insert pattern on the ap2 door cards as I prefer the Ap1 pattern) . I love my new inserts and JPM Coachworks has great products.
