I know they don't come from the factory with them, but what have others done to keep track of the time?

As I see it right now, my options are:
1: wear a watch, but that doesn't help the passenger.
2: Use a modifry mounting bracket and put some sort of device there (phone most likely to avoid cables)
3: Build a housing for a clock to be mounted off the side of the cluster for a permanent clock a digital clock. (I plan to do something here for another more universal purpose anyway)
4: Use a pillar pod for a clock (same issue with passenger)
5: change factory radio, but I prefer to leave the radio door closed and don't want to deal with getting the module to maintain radio controls.

Anybody have any good pictures of any of these options being used or other options i didn't consider?

Especially interested in a pillar pod being used for a clock.

At the moment I'm using the clock on my GPS, which sits underneath my mirror so that the passenger can see it as well.

 

Does your GPS have a wire running from it? I don't want any exposed wiring. I think our little GPS can be run off a charge. But the windscreen is already pretty small, so would perfer to keep low. That is another good option though and what I could use on the modifry mount.

 

02 and 03 AP1s have the clock function on the OEM radio. Maybe you should just swap in a newer model factory radio.

 

Seems like the simplest option (variation of #5 in my list). I will need to do some research and see what features a new OEM radio has..such as ability to power an amp/sub in case I want to do a system of sorts in the future.

 

I know it isn't high on your list of options, but seriously consider getting yourself a real tuner, the factory unit is really bad. Swapping to something decent will improve power by over 20 watts which is worth it as this car's system desparately needs more power. Afermarket units can be had for about $100, add in a modifry plug and play harness setup and you retain radio controls and easy installation. You can do the install yourself with the plug and play harness from Modifry. I run the Sony Xplod unit, 52w x 4 channels, and I can select a lighting colour to match the interior, but there are other manufacturers to choose from. Oh yeah you will get a clock too.

 

I have a MY00 AP1 also and I have an aftermarket head unit that has a clock. I prefer to keep the radio door closed like you but it isn't really a hassle to open the radio door for to check the time. Literally takes like 2 seconds to open the radio door, check the time, and close it. I feel that all s2000s should have an aftermarket head unit (and speakers) anyway because the factory ones were a joke. As for the modules needed to keep the radio controls, I can't help you there. My car had the aftermarket radio when I bought it.

realistically, the aftermarket headunit will be the way I go. I am still intersted in the idea of an analog clock in a pillar pod though. I think that would be cool.

Thanks for everyones feedback. I will probably go with a single din unit that has a pretty minimalistic face to it but lots of power. I am considering an amp and some better and more speakers. Not a high priority for those though.

 

Just do what I did. Headunit (alpine xda-i305)+DCI Module+upgraded speakers. I used plug and play harnesses so it was super easy. The sound is enough for me.

 

I know the topic is starting to stray but im guesing you lose the option of radio station switching with the dash switch when swapping in an aftermarket deck?
