I could start looking for a interior that comes from a true black and tan, and just buy a car from those years.

No, as far as I know interior color is not in the VIN.
Like I said before, you could get any year GPW and just trade someone for their tan. I traded my tan interior w. 18k miles on it and now have red/black.

MMMMMMM <3 My 03 GPW w/ tan. I would not trade this car for ANY other available I love the AP1 styling and the white w/ tan looks incredibly refined IMO.
