Default How to remove center console carpet?

I got my hands on an 02+ OEM vinyl center console and I need to remove the center console carpet so it fits better.

The biggest thing I'm worried about is where the carpet meets the dash and goes under it. Are there clips or pins inside the dash holding the front of the carpet down? Or if anyone knows what is exactly involved with removing the carpet without breaking anything, that would be great.

Thanks!

Thats for the Rick's leather cover though. The OEM piece is quite a bit thicker and will be really too tight to go over the carpet...

I think you are thinking about Ricks cover.

As far as the OEM one, I think you need to remove the dash to install it. Not 100% sure, but that's why I went with Ricks over OEM.

I did this about 5 years ago. The stock carpet and the stock vinyl cover both reach far under the dash. As I recall there is a large cutout that allows for a post between the horizontal console structure and a vertical dash structure. However, it can stiil be done without removing the dash.

After removing the plastic pins along the sides of the console carpet, you will have to cut the carpet on either side of the post under the dash. If you have the 02 cover, it will be obvious where to cut the carpet. Now be careful as there is some airbag SRS wires nearby. After getting the carpet out (with about 5% remaining deep under the dash), you'll have to cut the 02 cover in the same area. Then loosen up the radio door and facia and shimmy the cover in place.

Looks great because the stitch pattern is identical to the seats. Some color changes occurred in 02. My red console cover is not quite "New Pure Red", but very close. If yours is black, make sure that it is the "early" black and not the later charcoal color.

BTW, I've had an early Rick's cover and a Muz cover. I prefer the Honda.

billo - Any tips on shoving the cover under the dash? The OEM cover is quite a bit thicker than the carpet cover and its making it a bit difficult.
