Default Probably a dumb question

Hello S2ki,
I was wondering if the trunk release in the "glove box" is simply a button, or a mechanical component.

I was recently thinking how screwed i would be if i locked my keys in the trunk because i like to keep my glove box locked. I leave the top down quite a bit so keeping the box locked is my only option, so i was wondering if it would be possible for me to tap the button and have something hidden under the seat or elsewhere. It would be really nice for popping the trunk while the car is running too.

Thanks in advance for the input! Has anyone done this?

i believe its just a switched button that lets power to the solenoid/plunger that pulls a cable, which releases the trunk.

I think it would be such a rare event to lock keys in a trunk, I know a couple guys have done it, but I can't see myself doing it. Plus I have two sets of keys/remotes if it happens anywhere near home.

I just installed my remote start and wired a relay to do power trunk release. You can tap the black/yellow wire at the keyless entry module under the driverside dash and run a relay and switch and control it from wherever you want. I do 12v for a living and would be happy to draw out relay wiring for you if you need it.

its been a while since you posted, but a chart would be great. more importantly if you could just tell me where the wire i need to tap is that would be great.
