S2000 Radio Door Modification
Getting a bit of cabin fever here in the Northeast... Sitting at my PC one day I noticed I had a all black radio door sitting behind my recently replaced phone and it made me go Hmmm...
I decide why not put my old phone in the radio door? I used it all the time for engine management monitoring and streaming music... Can still do that if I put in the door and hotspot my current phone, plus it clears up my windshield from my current phone mount...
I didn't think to do a write up though
. At the end of 8 or so hours over the course of a few nights, I am quite pleased with the results and looking forward to slotting it into the car...
Door that was previously in the car...

Test fit after wrapping the front of the door... CF wrap does funny things on sharp edges and corners, bottom looks wavy but is flat right corner is flat but looks like a crease...

Now what to do with the back...

Door back in the surround frame!

Does it power? Yes it does!

Ended up wrapping the back... Looks a lot better then the picture shows... But then again 99.9% of the time no one will see it anyways... I should have taken a picture before I put it in the surround... I have access to the battery, SD card, and power switches without removing the phone too... Installed a small magnet to automatically kick it into drive mode and bunch of apps to control it when on a charger and off a charger so I don't have to do anything but drive

Power lead ready for a connection once in the car

Great Job!
I'm currently my old phone as my music player/gps/engine monitor since I never listen to radio and I was thinking about putting the phone into the radio door.
You don't use a jack to listen to music do you?
I removed my radio and put the phone there but as I need to have a jack plugged into the phone, it seems to be harder to do the same job on the door...

It was not easy. I had a few docks laying around from other phones I scavenged the power lead from to fit in the tight area in the lower portion of the door. I have an aftermarket head unit in the S that does BT connection but they sell BT dongles that I use in my daily to connect my phone to my radio so I don't have to connect when I get in just turn on my music!.
Very cool, looks great , nice work
. I know all about cabin fever this time of the year, we go stir crazy in our parts and I am always looking at things to tinker with since I can't get the car on the road. lol

Thanks for your answer.
I think it will be very hard to put my phone in the door as I need to use a jack since I don't want to use a headunit anymore.
Going to think about it a little more

Very nice mod! I really like the photo with the torque app running
If you're interested in flattening out the rear cover, I recommend using a styrene sheet as it is a very easy material to work with. Styrene sheets can be ordered from online hobby shops and come in a variety of thicknesses. You can have it follow the contours of raised sections if you have a heat gun, or your can just lay it over the back of the phone for a smooth surface.
