Default Seat repair...

So I've finally gotten tired of looking at the worn bolster on my drivers seat. I ordered a new OEM cushion and pulled my seat out this weekend. The plan was to replace the cushion on the bottom 1/2 of the seat and then have a leather repair place re-dye everything. Once I got the cover off I didn't have the hog ring pliers and skills necessary to put the cover back on. I called the leather guy I was going to use and he said that he could get the cover back on and re-dye the seat for me.

I'll post before and after pics when it's completed.

I was just looking at my seat yesterday - its starting to look torn up from a decade of use, and I plan to recover mine and repair them someday. There is a thread here somewhere about improving the driver's side bolster that you may be interested in since the seat is apart.

I've had both driver's and passenger leather seat coverings off on both my S2ks to install seat heaters.

I used zip ties to reinstall them in place of the hog rings. Use the heavy "90 lb" strength ones available at Lowes or HD. You can pull them tight with a pair of needle nose pliers then cut them off flush where they lock together.

They work great. Virtually everyone who has installed seat heaters has used them when they put the covers back on.

The drivers side seat bottom in my car is all torn up and I want to replace it, as otherwise the interior is pretty much mint. I don't want it reupholstered in some other material, don't want a seat cover, and don't want to spend $700 for a new seat bottom. Hence I've posted 4 want ads for the bottom to no avail. I'm wondering if I'll ever get the thing fixed..

Looks great! Care to elaborate on what part you ordered? Was it just the foam on the seat or bolster foam or both?

Sure. I ordered the foam seat cushion that goes under the leather seat cover. In hindsight, I probably wouldn't have ordered a whole new cushion. I would have just pulled the side of the cover up and rebuilt the bolster with sponges from Home Depot like others have done. This would have dramatically reduced the cost and gotten a better result (the seat cover is now wrinkled a little from switching cushions).

I used a company called Fibernew to rebuild the seat bottom and redye the leather. They probably could have repaired the existing seat cushion as well.

The repaired seat really came out great.

Thanks for the post OP. Seat looks great! I need to have my red seat redone, since the seam in the lower half let go. I'm going to give my local Fibernew person a call.
