Default Stereo flap inside

I’m guessing the design gurus at Honda designed the inside of the flap with a purpose in mind, but for the life of me I can’t figure it out.

Can anyone one help me understand what the mouldings on the inside of the flap are intended for?!

It's about the right size for a folded piece of paper, i.e. registration/insurance so those aren't awkwardly fitting in your glove box or secret compartment.

This question first appeared in early 1999 or 2000 and Honda never revealed the secret.
