Default 2001 S2000 Cover for when the top is down

I'm about to purchase a 2001 S2000. It does not have the cover for the top when it is down. I have a few questions.

Do I need one as opposed to should have one? Is this a must have when driving. I would like one but wondering what people do.

Does a 2002 cover work on a 2001? The picture on Honda parts sites is doesn't show any different but it is a simple drawing. The Honda part for 2001 is discontinued, the 2002 and up is still available from dealers.

Thanks

Skip it. Tonneau cover is a pain and doesn’t really improve the aesthetics of the car when the top is down. Definitely is not a must have, I think in 17 years I’ve used mine 3 times.

I want one just to finish my new to me 2000, probably not needed and wouldn't be used ... just like the spare tire I bought for it... but only to make the car complete.. in my weird little brain.

My only thought is the 2002 pn is probably for those with glass window rather than plastic window. I would be surprised if the 2002 cover is not the same as the 00-01 cover.

I do not have this part, have never once missed having one. Imo they look silly and not in a good way.

Grabbing one for $100 isn't a bad idea just to have the car complete, I get that. People are asking $500+ for used ones which is just crazy. Few years back you couldn't give them away.

Yeah, $100 would happen, $500 not a chance!

Never used mine. It’s somewhere in the garage.

According to the Honda parts sites tonneau cover part No. 86380-S2A-902 fits 2002 and later. This part replaces -901 which may fit 2000 and 2001? Used tonneaus on eBay typically list they fit all years.

And Honda has it "on sale" for $701.00... Like them wanting $833 to stop an oil leak on my Solenoid (Spool valve).. I got the parts for $30..

They’re on eBay for under $200.

No one paid $700 for one, those sites are jacking up the price. They all came with them when new, wasn’t an add-on accessory or anything else.
