Do I really have to cut the black piece behind the fender? how would I keep water from going in there?

yeah, there's really no other way around it; i used a steak knife. haha. i never had any probs w/ water though. just avoid lg. puddles--such is the price for a cai.

also, you might look at plugging that drain hole on the fender tray (where the hood closes). it allows water to drain right where the air filter is going to sit. you'll see what i'm talking about when you get into the install.

avoid large puddles and you can buy a water proof...hum dont really remember what you call it. it is like a sock or a cover that goes over the filter that is water proof. it prevents water from getting in, but it it is submerge then, no way of getting around it. thats why i got the snorkel.

I find it so funny that people are still afraid of the CAI. "I heard somewhere that you can hydroloc, and it will kill your motor."

You have a greater chance of being hit by lightning.
Though the risk does increased when your IQ decreases, so be smart about your driving and stay away from LAKES!

CAI FTW! You will like the tone of your engine after install...enjoy.

You don't have to cut. I didn't, but I had to remove 1 of the splitters, the wheel liner is flexible won't get in the way so no need to cut that

I used one of these on the CAI I had for my Cobalt SS, which used a flat-end dry-flow filter:

http://www.allecotec.com/product_info.php?...products_id=168 you might find it cheaper, just google injen hydroshield

I'm now using it on the filter that came with the K&N fipk for my S, it barely covers the element, but it's not going anywhere either. It's just an insurance policy at this point, there's no water getting up in this intake, but would certainly help out with the CAI's.
