2JZ Help
Currently deployed and the internet blows so I am making a new post rather than looking around. Would take way too long and I don't have enough time to search.
I am interested in buying this S2000 with a 2JZ engine swap and was wondering what kind of rear end parts I should buy to support the new engine. The car was to be a project car but the current owner doesn't have time or space to continue on. I was told by a friend that it will need a new rear end and the owner said it may need a rebuild on the transmission. Any ideas where/what to buy? I am new to S2000s, especially 2JZ. Thanks for any help.

Hi, and thank you for your service
Your needs for a trans and differential depends on what you want to do with the car. If you plan to use and drive the car as a daily driver and for moderate spirited drives than a factory S2000 transmission and a modified stock differential is all you will need. Use a stage 2 clutch with this setup so you get great daily use and still get plenty of clutch bite when you need it.
You are welcome to PM me for more information on a S2000 differential upgrade when you are ready, I will hook you up with a few goodies for your service
Option 2, If you plan to boost the crap out of the car and drive the car hard then you may want to upgrade the transmission to the Toyota Supra. You can use the R200 Nissan differential with the Inlinepro instal kit or the Ford 8.8. IMO the Nissan R200 is a better fit.
Good luck with the car and be safe

Unless you are getting the deal of the century this just sounds like endless headaches to me. Best case the guy has really really detailed documents of what has been done to the car. Does it run? What needs to be done? I would never buy something like this unless the price was incredible and I knew exactly what I was getting into.
As for the transmission, I was told it already has the Supra transmission installed already. He was just telling me that it will need a possible rebuild because 1st gear is kind of messed up. And also that he never launched the car so he's not sure if the current driveshaft and other parts will hold up with the turbo 2JZ power.

Easy people....u never know lol
As far as rearend i personally used the ford 8.8 with the 2JZ. Extremely cheap, easy to rebuild with a laundry list of availible gear ratios. The 8.8 rearend is also easilt mounted if you use the ford explorer differential cover. There are many threads of how people have mounted them and what they used for axles and driveshafts.
Transmission...it all depends on what transmission is in the vehicle currently. The manual transmissions that would be bolted to a 2jz would more than likely be the W58, R154 or V160/161 (GETRAG). The W58 5-speed which came standard in the 2JZGE non-turbo MKIV (1993-1998) supra will not hold up to much abuse so i do not recommend that trans. The R154 came in the MKIII (1986-1992) supra Turbo with the 7mgte turbo engine and also varying cars in japan. The R154 is a rather stout transmission. Our cars being lighter than the supras takes a little less strain off of this trans and i have seen well over 500-600whp made on these transmissons in stock form. Then lastly is the V160/161 6-speed getrag trans. Many people have called these transmissions "indestructible" and have held 1,000+ hp in stock form. You would easily be able to identify if the V160/161 getrag is in the car as the shifter should be a few inches back from the stock S2000 location due to the transmission being HUGE! If the shifter is near or in the stock location this means that the trans will more than likely be the R154 or W58 5-speed trans.
If you do end up picking the car up and have any further questions just PM me and i will get back to you. Good luck on this one and if its true thats one hell of a deal

Wow, tons of info. Much appreciated. As for those who don't believe me .... it's true. Only 1k. The guy selling the car is my expediter here in Afghanistan. He is desperate to make room cause he already has a SRT4 and a Viper along with a motorcycle. He first told me 5k and was only willing to sell it to someone that has another form of transportation just in case something happens with the project. Then he just said hell, I'll go as low as 1k. Had to take the deal.
