3'' vs 2.5'' (Megan Drift Spec)
Sup guys, here's the deal
I plan on purchasing Megan's single-exit exhaust, the "drift spec", for the S. My issue is that, from searching around and reading up on others' exhaust setups, it seems like the goal when matching test pipes and exhausts is for them to have matching pipe diameter. I don't think that there are any test pipes that would truly match the 3'' Megan, but there are plenty of 2.5'' pipes that could pair up to the 2.5'' version of the Megan without a problem.
So what should I do? I want to go 3'' because I feel like it would sound better, maybe deeper, I dunno. At the same time I would like to have all of my piping match. Does it not matter as much as I think it does? I feel like there would be a huge difference in sound between the 2.5'' and 3'' Megan so this is kind of a tough decision for me.

You can easily have a 3" test pipe made, or try to get one from Asura. https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/688...ipes-and-hfcs/
To get the absolute best power out of your S you will want to match the pipe diameters as much as possible. You could get a 70mm test pipe, that would be fine but if you want every little hp out of it get the 3". As long as the pipe diameter doesnt decrease (i.e. 60mm collector, 70mm test pipe, and a 63mm exhaust..it decreased in size since the exhaust diameter is smaller than the test pipe size) that will kill the power. If you even did something like 60mm collector, 70mm test pipe, 3" (75mm) exhaust that will be fine, but it still won't get all the power out of it like it would with a matching 3" test pipe.
Also if I were you I would look into the new Berk 3" single. You can get them with a matching 3" HFC or test pipe already with it, and you can get them for less than $600 shipped iirc.

Berk is awesome... and the 3" berk gained 10 HP and 4 ftlbs over my megan 2.5". it is also quieter than the megan 2.5".
one thing that you DEFINITELY want to avoid are sudden expansions and contractions. From an airflow point (i'm a fluid mechanics engineer) gradual transitions a million times more efficient than a sudden contraction or expansion (going 2" collector to 3" TP to 2.5" catback for example)

Yeah you read it a little wrong man. He said his Berk 3" is actually quieter than the Megan 2.5" exhaust. Even though the Berk is bigger they have a lot better resonator and muffler on it to quiet it down more. The megan doesnt have a very good resonator and has an N1 type muffler which are known to be loud.

Honestly even if the Berk sounded better and had a higher HP output than the Megan, I wouldn't want it just because I think it looks dumb. Way too plain for me. I love the look of the Megan, especially that obnoxious angle. I just need to match it up with something!
I sent that "Asura" guy an email. He hasn't been active for a while now. Think he still makes those 3'' test pipes or what?

If you like cheap parts, power to you.
Asura and Megan shouldn't ever be mentioned in the same sentence. If you're considering Megan's 2.5" vs 3", Asura's parts are WAY out of budget for you.
Regardless, I wouldn't run the Megan and a test pipe without a tune.
