Default About to buy an OEM HT...

Hey everyone. I'm about to pull the trigger on buying a used OEM HT and had a few questions...

I'm going to post some pics and if someone could, tell me what I'm missing in order for this top to just attach right onto my S...

Where does this nub plug into the car? All I see is my defroster wire but nowhere to plug this into? (same with other side)
[attachment=36066:IMG_0760.JPG]
Any idea what Part # this rubber piece is?

Unless you're getting that thing for dirt cheap ($2k) I'd pass. It looks absolutely terrible. I'm betting salvage yard?

As to what you're missing, the bolts/side things that catch the death spikes and the wiring harness. Beyond that it looks complete. That rubber nub that's missing I think I have a spare I bought, if you get it just let me know your info and I'll send it to you if you cover postage.

To answer your question you need the two rear hardtop catchers to secure the back of the top to the body and the wiring harness to the top is missing. If the front catchers do not operate freely I'd replace them as well. The electric plug for the defroster plugs into an outlet that can be found by looking directly behind your left shoulder when you are in the driver's seat. There is a plug there where you will be able to make the connection into your car's harness. There is a hole there that is covered by a plastic cover. You will have to remove the interior panel behind the driver's seat to access the wires to make the connection to the defroster through that hole. I agree with The MuffinMan you need to get a good price because this top will require a lot of work. And mad ArmourAll.

As of right now he's asking $2400. My main reason for buying this would be to flip it. But now since all of you are saying it looks like a piece of junk then maybe I should ask him to lower the price since it going to need new hardware AND the paint on the top is scratched pretty bad and would need a respray.

How much do you think i'd be looking at?- New hardware + Respray?

I just want to make sure that it would be worth it for me to do this. I'd hate to see this top get out of my hands...

Aww shhh..! Hardware alone is a couple of hundred bucks by itself easily each front and back, then seals, harness and just a respray on the top without any body work is going to be at least 300 bucks. By the time you fix it you won't have much margin for profit on the flip at that price. And can he guarantee you it's not warped or bent? Did it come off his car? If you know what you're doing and you're going to do the work it might be worth it but to pay to get the work done. I don't know. Then again with the way hardtop prices are going with people asking towards 4gs. Still again, I never saw a hardtop sell for more than 3500 bucks and it was in excellent condition.

OK well the guy came down to 1700.

Would it be worth it for me to just replace the hardware and clean it all up and just leave the paint how it is? I'm not sure what the resale value would be

Man it looks like its in rough shape. Based off of the pics you posted you are missing the "Y" harness that connects the hardtop to rear defroster harness and the softtop disable plug (on side catcher)all in one. You also need both side rear catchers that attach to the chassis of the car. Figure a quality respray will run 450$, and if those front latches are shot figure another 150-200$ and the rear side catchers another 250$. I would make sure it isnt warped in any way.

That's quite a price drop.

It could be stolen.
