Hi guys im planning on removing the airbox partition with a dremel very soon. I have read many threads on this but without any attn to the airbox lid. I took a look at how the air enters the airbox and think that removing the lower partition shouldnt do much unless you remove the "L" tube thats attached to the airbox lid. Do you guys remove the "L" as well as removing middle partition + taping/cuting resonator?

I want to do this right but dont want to regret a bad decision.

What are your suggestions for this procedure?

I left my lid alone when I did mine (except for insulating it). Im not certain, but in my opinion that L helps air go towards the filter, instead of into a huge box. If you take it out or not it isnt going to make a difference really. So I would just leave it.

Good luck in not burning out your dremel, and wear goggles and have a dry rag handy. If you want to do it right it gets to be a pain to cut the further down it goes.

 

Also forgot to say. On mine I left probably about half an inch of the plate still there, instead of taking the entire plate out so its all smooth in there. I just did that just in case something got in there, or water somehow got in there it would be stuck in that first little chamber. That way your filter isnt sitting in debris or any water that might get in there. Highly doubt it could get in there, but I just did that for the hell of it.

 

I removed the "L" shaped thing in the lid of mine. I feel the same as you, What is the point of removing the block plate if you are still only funneling a small amount of air into the filter. if you leave it in it only sucks air from 20% of the filter. I also went to home depot and got some aluminum tape and lined the inside of the box with it. ( it helps reduce heat soak and covers up the chamber behind the filter. Honestly i would not use a dremel tool it takes too long. I started with a dremel and It sucked I finally used a box cutter, It cut like butter. I love this mod! I would recommend to anyone!

Did you notice a difference with the insulation and the filter?

 

Yeah the box cutter worked wonders, just get a nice sharp one. I did it all at once, but i did notice a little difference. mostly just throttle response and tone. It probably gives a 4-5HP gain not enough to really feel. Which is about what you would get with a cold air intake, but you don't get a lot of heat soak like you do with CAI's.
