Default airbox removed lid with cut vented hood

I was wondering if it is safe to run my airbox with out the lid with my oem cut vented hood?

Safe from what? Rain, heat, bugs. If you leave the air filter on it will keep the dirt out but if you get some good hard rain your air filter might get wet. Now if you could get a spare airbox lid and cut a hole in the top of the lid and make a mold to have it seal against the bottom of your hood at the front vent on the hood, now that would be a functional cold air supply.

Well I know I don't want it getting wet so I would put the cover back on when raining. I'm just worried about heat soak or it being bad for my motor because it gets a lot of air because of the vented hood. So I should be fine as long is it doesn't get wet?

You have any pics of your hood? Interested in seeing how it looks

Most people are strictly against unmatched bodypanel colors but I love my bb vented hood on my silverstone.

I would leave the cover on and get a snorkel instead.

How much do snorkels go for? Do they go on the stock airbox? Are the sound and performance gains any good?

snorkels can run 250-500 depending who you get it from. i'm not a fan of the oem "vented" hood or mismatched colored body parts at all.
it might give you better throttle response, don't know about sound. just get a new intake if you are really just aiming for sound (obviously cause you just want to take the stock lid off). gains from a snorkel won't do anything pretty much, most intakes don't unless you get a tune with other bolt ons, gains are still not much though

The snorkel just alleviated my heat soak problem when I had to do rush hour traffic on a 80 plus day.
Beyond that it just sits there, looks pretty and makes my hood a bitch to close.
No performance or sound difference, but I like the stock intake sound and I'd never be able to tell the difference of a few HP.
