Default Any updates on the UK exhaust mod? Any downsides?

I ran across a thread about the UK exhaust mod which looks to be 8 yrs old. Somehow I never heard of it til yesterday. It seems 1-1/2 inch stainless pipe is the way to go for a good throaty sound. Has anyone experienced any downsides to it? Any issues with emissions or state inspection, noise ordinance issues? Any loss of power from doing this mod?

What's the best way to cut the holes - hole saw, standard drill but then making the hole before the resonator more of an oval shape for a 45 degree weld?

I've had it for years, it's excellent, no drone at all. Volume is controlled by your right foot. No emission issue, the mod is after the cat. Use the same size pipe as the loops, don't bother going smaller. I took mine to a shop, so I can't help with the details, but I'm assuming it was fishmouthed. My guy did a great job, welded in with nice smooth bends.

Mine is 1.25" pipe. Much smaller than the loop pipe, which is 2". I find it too loud. Especially on decel.

Not obnoxious, but way more thanI was looking for. I wanted something that sounded like it coulda been a factory optional exhaust. Not a poor man's aftermarket catback.

In retrospect a 1" bypass pipe probably would have suited my needs.

By all means, if you want loud, go for a larger pipe. But everyone's idea of not too loud is different.

I forgot how big my bypass size was but I did the UK mod and even deleted the resonator. Cruising around town and at stops the car sounds quiet once engine is up to temp. It does get loud if you are playing with the gas a little and at WOT its loud but in a good way. It was never too loud that I couldn't have a conversation with the passenger. In fact my soft top wind noise is worst than the exhaust when cruising on the highway. When I was dyno tuning my car with just a cold air intake, UK exhaust, and berk high flow at WOT it sounded amazing. I at one point ask him why he kept shutting off my car after a run only for him to tell me he didn't. The car is just quiet at idle. I enjoyed it a lot and still do.
