I picked up a J's header and dyno'd before and after....my graphs were IDENTICAL. No HP gain, no TQ gain. I can post my dyno sheet if needed but I was VERY surprised/shocked. Spent $1200 for a 14lb weight reduction and visual points....

But what headerback did you have?

I ordered my berk header/high-flow cat yesterday, but I won't have before/after dyno results When the snow clears in the spring, I can get you guys before/after trap speeds though, which will be better than a dyno anyway.

Does anyone have real results on this header, of any kind? I bought it to drop weight, and because I plan to go with a SC setup next season.

In my mind the least controversial way to evaluate a header, in the mid-range at a minimum, is to test how low you can take VTEC. With the Berk it is 5000 RPMs (two tuners I used came to the exact same conclusion), the OEM is 5600 (tested by two highly competent tuners as well), the Toda and Mugen are about 4500-4600, the Js is 4100-4200 and the Hytech is under 3800. These numbers are with a 70mm exhaust or dual equivalent.

For the upper mid-range to top end you can look at a slightly more obscure tuning tool which are adjustable cam gears. The Berk made more power for me with retarded cam gear timing (less valve overlap), which means the Berk was more restrictive upper midrange to top-end than the OEM. With Js, Mugen, Hytech or Toda you can run more overlap which means advanced cam gear timing and make more power.

Finally, for my setup, two separate tuners have said, based solely on the peak HP figure, that with the Berk header they felt my car was making 5-10 HP *less* than it should. But honestly forget about this piece of the puzzle and focus on the other two areas of proof I provided because they are a lot more direct evidence of the Berks capabilities than peak HP figures that vary so much from car to car and dyno machine to dyno machine.

i say this because you cant put a 4" outlet then neck down to a 2" outlet. A header is designed to work in conjunction with the rest of the exhuast, if you dont have the rest of the exhaust how can you complain? Its simple flow dynamics, you can even look at it from a hydraulics standpoint. Where there is restriction there will be problems.

berk says you need to run through a few cold engine starts and like 100+miles before you see the gains from it.

I'm curious to know how it felt after the tuning. I have an emanage ultimate getting tuned next week and i'm up in the air right now about installing a berk header or not before then.

if you can get stronger gains with a tune out of the header it could be worth it...but it could all be speculation too.

let us know how it goes with header and tune.

seems most people with the Berk header gain 5-10 hp in the mid range but lose 3-5hp up top.

Anyone know the torque settings for the header bolts? I'm gonna tackle this install tomorrow.
