Battery Box Blues
I did a battery relocation to the rear. Kind of temp right now until I find a box to put it in. However all the boxes I can find are made for size 24 or 27 batteries and they are like 9 inches wide a 51 is like 5 inches wide. Looking for a box that is 10" H X 9" L and 5" W. Everything is 13 inches long and 9 inches wide. Search a zillion sites and on this one if you type the word "box" you get a lot of stuff! Anyway if anyone can help. The closest I found is on Summit and it is 10X12X7. The three inches too long is a killer since you cannot tuck into the corner anymore. Anyway help S2Ki
Nice job dude. I never thought of sinking it thru the floor like that. Guess the only thing I would do different is to have some sort of sealed cover for it vented to outside. This so it would pass SCCA inspection. Also a cover would give the positive connetion some protection from shorting out on things in the trunk. Glad to see you put a fuse in. What did you use a ANL 100 amp? Looks great. Thanks for the idea.
What S~Factor did is what I should and would do. I don't use my trunk often but when I do, I regret having the stupid damn battery taking up most of the right side of my trunk.
In fact, how much would it cost to order one of those from you S~Factor?

As you can see from S~Factor's design, there is a lot of space underneath that area of the trunk which allows for bolts or a holder. Right now it's bolted to the trunk lining using the OEM holder from the hood area. It's quite sturdy if you reuse those gigantic lugs from the front.
The pain in the ass part is cutting threw or trimming around the carpet liner. I simply drilled threw it.
I have to say though (again), I would prefer having it counter sunk like S~Factor's. Either that or get a battery you can lay on its side and put it up in the spare tire area. A lot of guys seems to have road-side so it sort of negates the need for a spare tire and parts. Saves weight as well (if you're into that). For that; you'd only need a small dry cell battery. I may go this route once this one dies. I haven't decided yet.
All this talk about this has re-lit my flame to make a box like S~Factor's. I have some simple metal bending tools, a rivet gun, and some aluminum. I should be able to make something work if he won't make and sell me one.

I found a box at Summit that is a little bigger. I might just counter sink it. You really want a box that is acid resistant. I do not think aluminum will stand up to sulfuric acid. Plus it has a cover.

Thanks for the kind words fellas, it's very much appreciated!
If I were to do it over again, I would go with a smaller OEM battery (check the chart below for reference). Group size 52 is 2 inches shorter, for example, and build a box for that. I'm all for weight savings. How little it maybe.

I was able to pull this off (recessed install) because I have a center exhaust set up, otherwise the box will hit the OEM muffler on the passenger side.
Good luck on your search OP.
