Default Berk 3" vs Invidia N1?

Have the Invidia N1 with Invidia TP now (just bought car) and it's wayyyy too droney. Had to take the hardtop off after 30 miles because it was making me deaf, even with earbuds in. Top down I still start to get a headache from the drone, the loudness isn't terrible though. Drone to me is where you feel the pressure on your eardrums.

Really want to pull the trigger on the Berk as it's a beautiful system that shows really nice gains. Is anyone running this system with a hardtop still among the hearing? Is the drone better / worse with the TP vs the HFC? Has anyone actually gotten sound levels yet? (Read the 18 page thread and didn't see them)

For comparison I used to have (other car) Berk TP, deleted resonator on stock exhaust and liked that a lot. I feel like the Invidia is almost as loud as when I was running an electronic cutout at the header. It's seriously that loud.

Cheers all!

Edit: Followup review here

Read Takchi's review; he owns a CR (hardtop, no factory sound deadening)

Did. He didn't comment on HFC as he doesn't have, and I didn't get a real sense of whether you need earplugs because of drone, the hardtop, or just the loudness?

It's just plain loud. I'd guess his car would register about 120dB at WOT/redline. A HFC would quite it down a bit.

Drone is usually worse with a HFC. Drone isn't bad if all you do is just the headerback exhaust. If you have any chassis bars, Spoon Rigid Collars, diff collars, stiffer bushings, light flywheel, or anything that "produces" more noise, then the drone gets worse. Otherwise, earplugs are suggested if you want to keep your hearing with ANY exhaust.

Hi Takchi- thanks for commenting, nice to hear from someone who has it. (Great review btw)

Right now I'm stock body-wise, but have a Vortech, AEM, Invidia N1 (early) and I believe an Invidia test pipe. With the hard top on you feel quite a bit of pressure on your ears in the drone range. No top on it's not as bad but after a half hour you start to get a headache. My wife thinks the sounds sucks (or blows) and I'd had to agree that down low it sounds like a fart cannon... (Flame suit on)

So is this [berk] basically a track only exhaust that you couldn't really daily drive without going deaf? I'm trying to justify it, but I hate driving the car with the Invidia and don't want more of the same. Like I said earlier I think it's damn near as loud as when I had an exhaust cutout, except that didn't drone.

Cheers!

I have never heard the Invidia N1 in person so I cannot comment on its drone levels. Many Berk exhaust owners were happy to switch from their previous exhaust setups to their current 3" exhausts. If anything, I think you will appreciate the Berk 3" headerback exhaust more than your current exhaust setup. Berk is notorious for their FI exhaust setups so this 3" exhaust would be perfect for your setup. This Berk headerback isn't a track only exhaust. Everything with a slight press on the gas pedal is fairly mellow on the outside. Anything more, it's just a menace. At the racetrack yesterday, I think I got a few guys who were dead set in buying the Berk exhaust after hearing it in person. I guarantee it'll be an exhaust that you will be happy with after you pick it up.

You can learn to keep the noise levels down enough to carry a conversation in the car without yelling

Just got off the phone with Berk- pretty awesome to have such beautiful products AND great customer service. Mine is being built (hopefully) as we speak. Stay tuned.
