Default Bilstein PSS9 Question

Just need to ask couple of questions about PSS9:

1. Are the front helper springs meant to be fully compressed?

2. Is it true that if helper springs are not fully compressed, the main springs will not be at the maximum spring rate? e.g PSS9 front spring rate is around 6.2kg/mm , my friend said I should theoritically be running 1.2 kg/mm spring rate if my helper springs are not fully compressed.

I know my rear helper springs are fully compressed even at the lowest setting.

Any thoughts?

Erik

All of the helper springs should be fully compressed with the car off the jacks/lift/stands and the wheels on the ground.

Mmm ok, if that's the case I will run 3 finger gaps at the front just to compress helper springs.

Any body with pss9?

Yes, I have PSS9s with an approx 1 finger gap (635 mm from the fender to the ground at the front).

With the car on the floor the helper spring will compress regardless of where you set the spring platform.

Ok this is very odd then, I don't think my installer put the wrong helper springs (front to rear or rear to front), or could it be the case?

I think all four helper springs are the same. I'll check for you.

Maybe they are assembled incorrectly, did you following the instructions in the user manual?

I cannot understand how the helper springs cannot be compressed. As soon as you drop the car off the jack they should compress all the way. They are very weak springs, you can compress them with your hands. There only job is to stop the main spring from becoming unseated at full droop.

Can you please post some pictures of you setup.

I just had a nasty thought....

...maybe the damper rod is seized which is why the springs aren't compressing.

Did you buy the PSS9s new or used?
