i was wondering if i can mount harnesses with my car as it is, or do i have to add a roll cage like you said? and also, do you know if any harnesses are even street legal, i thought they werent.
you need some sort of bar behind you to connect the shoulder straps to. i've seen someone cut the roll hoop plastic and wrapped the straps to the bars inside--but that's not safe. they make harness bars for some cars, but i've only seen bad/unsafe ones (j's racing i believe) for the s2k... so yeah, your only bet is a full roll bar in back.

as for the harness being "legal"-- i don't think there's a law saying you can't wear them technically, but they probably don't count as proper seat belts either. which means you can wear them, and then wear your stock seat belt over them, technically. but that would be totally lame.

anyway, you don't want to wear a full harness on the street. i dunno if you ever tried one, but it takes a while to get into it and strapped down. then when you are, you can't even move. and when you drive on the street, you need to move to check blind spots and other thigns.

If harnesses are not DOT approved they are not legal for road use.

alright.. thanks for the info guys. i guess ill just risk the "unsafe" seat. sounds like a lot of work and alot of stress, just for harnesses. but i will admit, those takatas are pretty sick looking.
