Default built rear differential?!

alright so im getting an s2000 here shortly & soon after going with the inline pro gt30r. obviously theres supporting mods needed but the biggest for drag (my kinda racing!) is that bulletproof rear differential. what do you guys think is the best route (least expensive / yet realistically unbreakable).

i found a guy locally who builds cryotreated beefed up monster rear difs that are direct bolt on for $3000 flat. which would save me the hastle of all the customizing for the competing kits, not to mention i wouldnt have to buy a 300zx rear dif. do you guys think ive found a pretty good deal or have you heard of some better deals out there? lmk whats up thanks guys.

I guess if you really think it's "bulletproof". I don't really think anything is bulletproof, but the 300zx diff are known to handle massive amounts of power, and a lot of 240 guys run these diffs on their drag cars, and they still hold up. Where is this diff coming out of? Is it a S2K diff? I don't know of any S2K diff that is bulletproof and the puddymod diff that I run has the largest caps that are availible. By no means is it bulletproof, but it definately is stronger than any comptech or OEM diff that I know of.

I've heard that the 300ZX rear diff. is really heavy. I guess that extra weight is what makes it stronger. Are there stronger diffs out there without the hefty weight penalty?

get a solid rear axle out of a mustang and ford 9 inch diff. that would be bulletproof some 1000hp axles. Inline pro makes a rear diff kit around 3k.

if you launch at redline with say 450whp/320 whtq (rough estimate) would you trust your "puddymod" rear dif to hold up consistently or would it be risky at that point.. thatnks for all the feedback btw.

The diff caps will hold at most anything an S2000 engine can toss it's way. You maybe able to brake a housing or LSD but, the caps will hold
Like it's been said nothing is 100% bulletproof but it is unlikely you will brake the PuddyMod rear.

Every time you improve on something in the drive train you only move the week link to another place.
This is another fail safe part good to have in a rear used for drag racing

It is a solid mandrel steel sleeve instead of using a crush sleeve shown in back ground. It is not shimmed it is machine fitted to the rear it goes in.
It is hard core $hit for hard core abuse

I would trust Ben's (PuddyMod) diff all day. I have had it for about 4 months now, and I'm glad I shelled out a little more money for the peace of mind. I trust his diff 110%. I build diffs as well, but his caps are known to hold and I wouldn't buy anything else.

If you open up a stock AP1 diff, the cap that comptech offers, has a gap between it. This is stronger, but weak in the sense that it isn't completely reenforced as it should be. Here is a picture:

You can see from top to bottom Stock, Comptech, PuddyMod...That common sense would tell you that the larger cap, without any gap, is going to hold 10x more than stock, 5x more than comptech. I don't beat on my car, but when I do launch the car, the rear end grabs hard and I can rest easy knowing that I haven't damage anything. I have a limited amount of mods, but this is the best one I have by far. LMK if you have any other questions, and btw, I am just a customer that loves his product. I wouldn't have backed him unless I stood by the product myself. As a transmission builder, I know that this is a solid piece.
