Default Catback stock exhuast?

I've tried looking at the forums and use the search engine but it just led me to aftermarket exhaust and whatnot.

so i was just wondering has anyone tried just a catback new piping say 2.5 with the stock exhaust? or did everyone just go out and got an whole exhaust system for the car?

any vids links to what it sounds like or pricing anything would help please thanks in advance

The factory mufflers are so damn heavy that most people who want to make a modification just go for a whole new exhaust system.

or you can try replacing the heavy mufflers with aftermarket cans, not sure about the sound output though

55lbs for the oem exhaust, maybe 10 or 15 lbs, less if a single, for aftermarket...

the end result of what you're asking might sound just like as if you delete the resonator.

some say it sounds 350z-ish and some say it sounds like an intake but coming from behind you.

I have 2.5" piping from cat to the OEM split. I'm still heavy in the exhaust but I made up for it by dropping the spare tire & jack.

And yes, with a CAI it does sound like a Nissan VQ.

i was talking with inlinepro yesturday about a titanium exhaust and he made a good point about losing weight from the exhaust, doesnt it ruin the 50/50 weight distribution that honda worked so hard to create and most likely the reason for the heavy ass stock exhaust.

I just got an used Apexi GT-Spec system and weighed the piping yesterday - The mid-pipe weighed (9.8) which I rounded to 10 lbs and muffler section was (14.6) which I rounded to 15 lbs. Thats a total of 25 lbs. The gt-spec has a ginormous can though, a smaller can would weigh less...

I know the buddy club spec III weighs in at 20 lbs or something due to lack of flanges and lighter muffler and resonator. But, its an ear bleeder

I bought it for weigh reduction basically - fabbing up a system by buying a nice muffler like magnaflow, the bends and welding costs put me close to an used system, so I went that route to avoid all the effort. I am sure I could have saved some money, but lot less hassle this way imho

Search for my posts under racing section, there is a thread with links to a few how-to's to just drop mufflers and go to single muffler.

Hope this helps!

I don't understand -- you want to use the stock mufflers with aftermarket tubing?
