Default Clutch chatter

I have an 01 that has the annoying buzz from the trans caused by the OE clutch. I want it fixed but want other peoples opinion first. I drive the car fairly hard considering the only time it comes out is for fun. I am taking it to Summit Point for the first time in July and figure that will put some stress on the clutch as well. My question: Is the new OEM clutch good enough for track abuse? The car is not going to see any modifications so i dont want an aftermarket clutch but i also dont want to replace the clutch again anytime soon. Also, if i do need a better clutch, do they get rid of the chatter? Thanks for the help.

the OE clutch can handle "average" track use. if it's not slipping yet, it'll be fine. have fun, summit is a nice track.

that said, it's not a terribly good clutch. I'd look forward to the day that it's worn out enough to justify swapping. aftermarket clutch FTW.

also, it's not the trans that's buzzing. it's the springs on the OE friction disc vibrating, and as i'm sure you know, it's not a problem but it is annoying.

also # 2, that's not "chatter". chatter is something else. this commonly just called the "decel buzz".

thats the thing. it will sometimes slip when shifting quickly to 2nd so i want to replace it... so will an aftermarket clutch get rid of the decel buzz? what company makes a decent clutch for the price?

well if that's the case get another one ready, and then beat the hell out of the stock one until you're ready to swap.

many aftermarket clutches do get rid of the decel buzz, but not all. most of us have just learned to live with it, it's not that bad.

anyway, i know a lot of people on here "mix and match" their pieces (pp, fd, fw), so i'm sure someone will chime in with some recommendations.

i personally have an exedy racing (hyper) that i couldn't be happier with. no decel buzz, TONS of grip and a nice firm pedal. it was a NIGHTMARE getting used to it during break-in, and i wouldn't expect anyone else to be able to use it smoothly without practice, but i love it. it's definitely on the pricier side, and likely to be much more than you need, given your first post.

No, he's clearly talking about the decel buzz. Most of us have it. I believe it's TSB 54, but you may want to double check.

Regarding your clunk - there's a good chance that's your slave rod - do you "feel" the clunk as well, in the pedal? The tips of these rods get worn into a point and can cause that, as well as inconsistent pedal action. It's a simple as grinding the point down again. GL!
