Default Coilover Install Tip: Suspension nut

K, I had a crazy time and 2 trips back to home depot trying to get a matching bolt nut for cause on MY07 AP2, the nut is welded on the stock suspension.

12mm x 1.75 and ITS METRIC!

dont ask how I know

I've searched and looks like most aftermarket coilovers come with a replacement nut so not too much info there. Dont force it on the bolt if it wont go, chances are its the standard thread and you'll ruin your flange bolt.

Also:

-try and get grade 8/hardened steel/zinc coating etc if possible.
-I bought 2 and plan to put a dab of lock tite since the nuts I bought were not self locking kinds.

Hope this helps out future installers. I believe AP1 suspension nuts are not welded on, but I could be wrong.

Are you talking about the bottom of the shock? In that case, yes it is welded on.

yups thats the one.

Just wanted to post it up since there was no clear answer anywhere I searched and getting c/o's secondhand sucks when you find out during the install you are missing it. I hear from others that their suspension came with one that was zip-tied on.

Hope that helps anyone out there

Ooh. Lol, I see. my MY01 had the nut welded on to the bottom. The bilstein CO's had the same nut welded to it so I was safe. lol

I purchased the Tein Comfort Sports specificaly made for the S. The bolt actually comes welded on like factory. Pretty nice on the install..no trips to Home Depot or Lowes..
