does the shift boot being so close to the knob bother anyone? i always hated feeling like i was holding the boot and the knob at the same time and this is what has caused me to hesitate buying a voodoo shift knob. just wondering if it's an issue.
Personally I love it!!! Visusally awesom and to be honest a voodoo is large enough where you dont have to worry about your hand rising the boot.
A knob that sits high and shows the shaft of the shifter look like sheeittt.
Thanks jerks, this thread ruined my afternoon, a perfect shift knob and two dremel grinding wheels. Ha ha. Ive been looking at the voodoos for a while, but i have a skunk 2 anniv knob. Ive always loved the weight of it but HATED how high it sits with that lock nut.
So I did in 5 minute stints of what 45 seconds on a drill press would have done. I ground down those threads over and over untill it was just where i wanted, orients perfectly! no loctite no lock nuts and its not going anywhere. I still had about a quarter inch more that i could have knocked out but i was about to break my last bit and getting tired. The knob got really hot so i would grind a bit then let it cool and test fit over and over. Here's what i came up with.
Stock Skunk peeking up over the dash(ok its not that tall)
and now it sits nicely(i think i lost about an inch++)
enjoy! (not bad for a $50 knob ehh?)
I have the same shift knob, but at stock height, it feels a shit load better than stock, but its a little high and I don't have the tools to make it as short as yours so I must buy a countersunk shift knob. lol.
The boot is just a cone shaped bit of Leather (plastic?) of which the neck is folded over inside itself. You can play with it a bit to get the best look. Try this:
Lift the centre console
Pull more of the boot down though
use a cable tie inside to make the boot hold the shift lever
By doing this you can reduce the sag in the boot which has a visual effect of making the knob look lower. Plus you can set it to a height that wont get in the way of the knob itself
ARC Knob with boot in standard position
And after I fettled with the boot and put a couple of ties on it.
